In 1968 Black student at Northwestern University occupied the Bursars Office, in what is now known as the Bursars Office Takeover, to demand better treatment of Black folk on campus.
In 2018 the University celebrated the 50 year anniversary of this display of radical Black organizing while simultaneously being very aggressive towards current student organizers and their demands on behalf of Black students and community members, service workers, and Latinx and Asian American students.
Student organizers in 2018 organized collaborative demonstrations during the celebration to remind the University that their hypocrisy did not go unnoticed.
Julia Song and I documented and filmed and various actions, teach-ins, and meetings on behalf of the organizers. I crafted this short film out of the footage to highlight the comradery, community, and solidarity of the actions taken by this coalition of student organizers.
